The Perfect Isle of Skye Accommodation
Mary’s Thatched Cottages, is a collection of charming holiday homes situated in the village of Elgol in the Isle of Skye. Originally established by Drew and Mary Sim, these cottages have since 2018 been lovingly cared for by individual owners, each bringing their unique touch to the experience. Drawing inspiration from traditional Hebridean black-houses while offering the comfort and luxury of modern dwellings, Mary’s Thatched Cottages continue to serve as Isle of Skye self-catering holiday homes set amidst a truly wild landscape.

We have been staying at Tigh Mairi with our dogs, Indie, Hector and Frankie since 2007, as it combined a high-quality luxury retreat from busy working lives and relentless email, with a truly dog-friendly base for exploring Skye.
We took the opportunity to buy Tigh Mairi in 2018, so we could keep enjoying dark skies, stunning drives, exhilarating walks and cosy nights in. We aim to give the same excellent standard of welcome we had from Mary and Drew Sim, combined with our own Skye experiences, and Yorkshire Tea or freshly filtered coffee to start the day.

As the owners of Tigh Lachie, we fell in love with the property on a typical Skye weather day in April 2018. Despite missing our scheduled viewing, we were fortunate enough to be flagged down a friendly man in a thick coat and rain hat who turned out to be Drew. Once inside, we knew immediately that we had found the perfect place and didn’t want to look anywhere else. It’s our first foray into holiday cottage letting, and we’re thrilled to hear that so many people have enjoyed their stay here. Tilly is also a big fan!

As lovers of the outdoors we have spent many a night in our campervan travelling around Scotland’s Highlands and Islands. Its fair to say we fell in Love with Skye on our first visit and several years later we decided to make our stay more permanent. Tigh Phadraig was the last remaining cottage for sale at Marys Thatched Cottages and the first we viewed on Skye.
We knew immediately that this was the one as it charmed us with its rustic and warm welcoming feel as well as the amazing views and many walks nearby. Being our first holiday cottage rental it is very much loved by us and our family and thankfully our guests have told us they love it as much as we do.

Surrounded by majestic scenery, coastal walks, boat trips, and abundant wildlife, An Nead is the perfect sanctuary for couples seeking to walk, climb, swim, explore, and immerse themselves in this spectacular part of the island.
